Disabled Discrimination Act
The Disabled Discrimination Act 1995 (DDA) introduced new measures aimed at ending the discrimination many disabled people face. The main thrust of the legislation is to improve access and circulation within all environments. The specific requirements are identified in the Building Regulations for England and Wales, specifically within approved Document M which sets the minimum legal requirements.
Nowhere is the DDA more important than within office and workplace planning. It is essential that an organisation considers all aspects of disabled access and circulation and must develop an Access Statement to describe how inclusive design principles have been incorporated within their office space. An Access Statement is not a static document but a living process which should evolve with an organisation’s occupancy of its space.
Ci3 have considerable experience in preparing Access Statements and working with client’s to achieve appropriate access solutions.
